The post-conference fieldtrip will be a 3-day and 2 night trip through some of North America's premier grouse country. On the first day of the fieldtrip, we will travel from Logan, Utah, through sharp-tailed grouse and ruffed grouse habitat of eastern Idaho, and dusky grouse habitat in northwestern Wyoming. The second day will consist of 2 options. The first option will be a driving tour through Yellowstone National Park, with planned stops at spectacular geological features and unplanned stops for wildlife viewing including American bison, grizzly bear, Shiras moose, and North American elk. The second option will be a day of hiking in the Grand Teton Mountains above the western shores of Jenny Lake. On the third and final day the group will explore portions of western Wyoming's greater sage-grouse country.
The fieldtrip includes all meals starting with lunch on 29 September and ending with lunch on 1 October. Lodging and transportation are also included in the cost. There will be numerous stops on this fieldtrip with knowledgeable speakers that will provide insights into the local grouse species, as well as to other natural history features. The group will be housed for 2 nights at the University of Wyoming-National Park Service research station on the shores of Jackson Lake. Another highlight includes the Bar J Chuckwagon Supper and Western Music Show. Early registration is encouraged as the fieldtrip will be limited to 60 participants.
